The Insurance Business Association (UNESPA) represents around 300 insurance institutions, i.e. it represents more than 94% of the Spanish insurance market.

UNESPA has been engaged in its activities since 1977. Its functions are to represent, manage and defend the professional, economic and social interests shared by its member institutions before all manner of individuals, bodies, public or private organizations, whether in Spain or abroad. It also represents the collective interests of its members with regard to labour issues and its functions also include the provision of added-value services to members, collaboration with institutions on matters affecting insurance and, in general, carry out any action that may be necessary for the defence of the insurance sector’s interests. The Association has five organs of governance and representation: the General Meeting of all its members, the Management Board, which is the maximum body between General Meetings; the Executive Committee, which is the body in charge of UNESPA’s day-to-day management, the Audit and Monitoring Committee, and the figure of its President or, since 2003, its Madam President.
